My 10-day road trip in early June got off to a rough start when we landed right in the middle of a pre-summer heat wave. Within a 24-hour period, Blanca and I had traveled from a perfect 65 degrees F (18.3 C) at our sea level home inland up to 7000 feet and had seen the thermometer rise by 40 degrees to an incredible 104 F (40 C) in Grants Pass! It did hit both of us pretty hard, and there was really only one way I could offer Blanca some fun: Take her to play in the water!

Despite living in Florida for 5 years, I had never seen this reading on my car’s thermometer before!

Following a restless night in Medford, our first morning stop was at a wonderful park on Lost Creek Lake. We had it all to ourselves since it was Monday morning. Blanca is mistaking the buoys marking the swimming area for big orange doggy toys!

This lake was created artificially through the building of a dam on the Rogue River in 1977, primarily for flood control.

It must’ve been very busy over the hot weekend, but this Monday morning all was peaceful and sleepy.

This felt really good! But it’s already getting hot again. Back into the air-conditioned car and next stop: Crater Lake.

Some really great pictures.I especially love the one with Blanca & her very large stick. Also the one of her trying to get the big orange ball to play with her. That little house boat was really cute.
Thanks, Carol! Yeah, Blanca seems to think the bigger the toy, the more fun she can have!
